Faculty Guide: New Library Resources, Fall 2024

A faculty guide to new library resources

Welcome to our Faculty Guide to New Library Resources, Fall 2024 Edition

This guide was created to introduce faculty to the plethora of new library resources added to our collection for the Fall 2024 semester.

The opportunity to add this wealth of new resources to our library's collection was afforded to us by the Illinois Secretary of State and Illinois State Library's creation of a statewide library database collection. This collection is available to all Illinois libraries and residents.

With the State Library now providing a broad collection of databases, the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) was able to reallocate funds and expand their collection of databases they provide to their members as well. The Black Hawk College Library is a governing member of CARLI.

The Black Hawk College Library continuously evaluates our collections to ensure they are relevant to the curriculum needs of our programs. There are several new resources the library launched this summer as well.

In this guide, you will find lists of the resources provided by the State Library of Illinois, CARLI, and the BHC Library.  You can find the full list here

What library resources apply to my curriculum?

Click on the links below to find a list of library resources by subject area.

How can I share these resources with my students?

These resources can be accessed via our Databases A-Z list, and most are also discoverable in our online catalog

Our Reference & Instruction Librarians are available to assist students in-person or virtually via online chat, email, or Microsoft Teams. Instructors are encouraged to schedule a library instruction session for their class to receive an orientation to library resources or guidance for a specific research project.

I'd like the Library to add a resource to their collection. Who do I contact?

If there are resources you would like to see added to the library's collection, contact Ashtin Trimble, Director of Library Services.

The best time to submit a request is during the Fall term, so requests can be investigated before the next budgeting cycle begins.
