Information Cycle

A guide about the Information Cycle and how to search for news

Over a Year After the Event

After a year (and onward), a wider range of sources will be available. More academic articles and books, films (fiction and non-fiction), encyclopedia entries, government publications, etc.

Sources are longer, with more perspectives. If a court case is involved, new information may be published even years after the event.

How/Where to Search

To find coverage from over a year after the event, you can limit to sources published 12 months + from the event.

Gale General OneFile and Academic Search Complete are both good database to search, as well as the Library OneSearch. Government websites, video/film databases, and eBook collections are also ones to check.

In the Library OneSearch, using the advanced search, you can easily limit to sources from the specific date range (see example below for a search of the Notre Dame Fire that occurred April 15, 2019).
